Obama gets the Nobel Peace Prize

Wow!!!!!!!!! Am i surprised?????? Why not??? Obama himself said that he is surprised.
Am i delighted?????? You bet i am!!!!!!!
There are a lot of guys out there who say that he got it too early, didn't do much etc.etc.
A few quotes from the Nobel committee-----

"...Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given it's people hope for a better future..."

"...it is because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve..."

important and meaningful statements from the committee......

I think this prize is not so much for what he has actually accomplished in his eight months of presidency--at home or abroad. It is for what he did in terms of a policy shift, a change of direction. And for what he did not do.

Under Geoge W Bush America started two wars --- Afghanistan and Iraq, dragged the rest of the world too into these wars. It was also itching to start another two wars, with Iran and North Korea. Obama reversed the policy and made sure that no new wars are started and sincerely trying to end the old ones. He even set a date for quitting Iraq and is rethinking his Afpak strategy. The world was standing on the verge of an economic collapse when Obama took over. He made sure that the economic bomb didn't go off by his immediate actions in cooperation with other world leaders. On the environment front too he is fighting a battle on growing threats due to climatic changes and pushing for better energy management.

True that he has not yet achieved any concrete results either at home or abroad. But eight months is too short a time to solve problems of this magnitude. Obama's success is in the sense that he has made policy shift from CONFRONTATION TO COOPERATION. He has made sincere efforts to reach out to the muslim world. He is making sincere efforts to reach out to Iran. These are gigantic shifts considering american actions of the past few decades.

By these shifts Obama holds out a HOPE for PEACE in this violent world. That is why some are calling this a PEACE HOPE PRIZE.

The Nobel Committee has awarded Obama for not what he has achieved yet but what he hopes to achieve. He richly desrves this prize.
